Sar-i-Pul: Thousands of drought-hit families get wheat

SAR-I-PUL (Pajhwok): Three thousand metric tonnes of wheat has been distributed to 30,000 families affected by last year’s drought in northern Sar-i-Pul province, an official said on Sunday.

Deputy Governor Abdul Malik Azeem, distributing the aid, said the wheat had been provided by the Emergency Support Committee.

Drought-affected families in Sayyad, Suzma Qala, Gusfandi, Sancharak and Balkhab districts as well as Sar-i-Pul City, received the wheat assistance. Some of the wheat would be distributed to internally-displaced people.

Mohammad Nader, head of the local Shurainfo-icon from Hassan Baig village, hailed the distribution of wheat and said last year’s crop yield was far from enough due to the drought.

As a result, he said, locals had to face economic problems. He hoped the families and farmers receiving the wheat would have their problems resolved to some extent.
