PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani’s nominees will join Talibaninfo-icon and Afghan political leaders at a conference in Doha, the capital of Qatar, on April 14 and 15.

A senior Qatari official conveyed Ghani Taliban’s ‘willingness’ to discuss during his recent visit to Kabulinfo-icon, a Pakistani newspaper reported on Monday.

Dr Mutlaq bin Majed al-Qahtani, special envoy of the minister of foreign affairs, informed Ghani the Taliban were ready to sit across the table with Afghan government officials.

The Qatari official has been part of the Taliban-US negotiations in Doha, according to Daily Times.

A list of Afghan government representatives will be finalised in a couple of days. Ghani has held consultations with a number of public figures on the peace process and formation of a delegation for talks with the Taliban.

The Doha event will be the second meeting between Taliban and political leaders, including former president Hamid Karzai and ex-NSA Hanif Atmar, in less than three months. They last met in Moscow in early February.

The Ghani administration will send a delegation to Qatar to exchange views with the Taliban, but there would be no formal negotiations.

Taliban and Afghan officials say the upcoming event in Doha is not a negotiating meeting. Omar Daudzai, the president’s adviser and head of High Peace Councilinfo-icon Secretariat, said negotiations could be held after the meeting.
