12 police with guns defect to Taliban in Farah

FARAH CITY (Pajhwok): A dozen national police personnel have defected to Talibaninfo-icon militants along with their weapons in western Farah province, residents and a public representative said Wednesday.

Dadullah Qani, a member of the Farah provincial council, told Pajhwok Afghan News 10 policemen of the Bagh-i-Pul check-point of Farah City, the provincial capital, joined the Taliban along with their weapons.

He said another two police of Dehak village check-post defected to the rebels this morning.

Omid, a resident, also confirmed to Pajhwok that 12 policemen had joined the Taliban ranks.

The development was also confirmed by Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid.

Elsewhere, a seven-member Taliban group has joined the peace process in western Ghorinfo-icon province, an official said.

Abdul Hai Khatibi, the governor’s spokesman, the group led by Maulviinfo-icon Abdul Jabar, joined the peace process thanks to efforts by intelligence personnel.
