Apr 19, 2019 - 15:34

GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): Top security officials have pledged to ensure security and stability in southern Ghazni province despite the fact that the Talibaninfo-icon and Alqaeda members have strong connection and cooperation here.

Acting Defence Minister Asadullah Khalid, Acting Interior Minister Masoud Andarabi and US-NATOinfo-icon Forces Commander Gen. Miller have visited restive Ghazni province on Thursday to assess security situation.

Addressing reporters late on Thursday, compared to other provinces, more Taliban and Alqaeda members were present in Ghazni.

“We have credible intelligence that more Alqaeda and personnel of other outfits are present in Ghazni and their bodies often remained on the battle ground,” he said.

Referring to a question that the Taliban want the Afghan National Army (ANA) to be disintegrated, he said: “We are fighting for peace which honourable and ensure the protection of past 18-year achievements and the ANA is intact, going nowhere,” he said.

Interior Minister pledged to ensure security in Ghazni, adding that security situation had deteriorated and the Taliban suffered heavy losses in recent clashes.
