India gifts 100 motorised wheelchairs for disabled Afghan soldiers

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The government of India has gifted 100 motorised whellchairs for disabled soldiers of the Afghan National Army, a statement from Indian Embassy in Afghanistaninfo-icon said on Monday.

A ceremony in this regard was held at the Ministry of Defence where Indian Ambassador to Afghanistan Vinay Kumar handed over the gift to the Defence Minister Asadullah Khalid, the statement said.

“As a strategic partner, India has trained over 4800 Afghan National Army and Afghan Air Force Personnel since 2005 at various training facilities of Indian Army and Indian Air Force. India also has trained two batches of womeninfo-icon officers of the Afghan National Army and the Afghan Air Force at the officers’ Training Academy in Chennai in 2017 and 2018.”

India also extended medical facilities to 100 battle casualties of the Afghan National Army every year as part of the defence cooperation.

With focus on the martyrs of the Afghan National Defence and Security forces, 500 scholarships had been announced for the Next of Kin (NoK) of martyrs in 2015.

In the academic year 2018-19, 79 students commenced their educationinfo-icon in various educational institutions across India under this scholarship programme.

The gift of motorised wheel chairs will help disabled Afghan National Army personnel lead a better quality of life.
