LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): Police in southern Helmand province have recovered 25 tonnes of stolen wheat aid for flood-affected people.

Attaullah Afghan, the provincial council chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News that police recovered the wheat on Monday night.

He said the wheat had been stolen by Mohammad Nabi Ulfat, head of social council for Nad Ali district, and some officials at the governor’s house.

Another PC member, Gul Agha Muslim, said the wheat, taken out from a warehouse on the excuse of distribution to the poor, had been sold in the market. He urged the governor’s house to arrest the stealers.

Governor Mohammad Yaseen confirmed the recovery of the wheat stolen from the Safayan warehouse. He vowed to pursue case seriously and bring the perpetrators to justice.

On the other hand, the accused, Nabi Ulfat, vehemently denied involvement in stealing the wheat.
