MRRD spends $114m on hundreds of projects last year

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development (MRRD) spent $114 million on executing more than one thousand projects in 1397 solar yearinfo-icon.

On the other hand, the Gas and Petroleum Authority says it quarantined 137 tankers of poor quality fuel last year, calling it one of the office achievements.

National Medicine & Healthinfo-icon Products Regulatory Authority (NMHRA says it issued licenses to 368 medical foundations last year while the Ministry of Petroleum says it collected 7.2 billion afghanis in revenue during the same period.

The four government institutions shared their last year’s performance reports as part of the government’s accountability program with the media on Wednesday in Kabul.

MRRD

Rural Rehabilitation and Development Minister Mujib Rahman Karimi told the program that nearly $114 million were spent on implementing a little more than one thousand projects last year for alleviating poverty in the country.

He said more than 2,600 schools were surveyed and designed, around 600 small projects were implemented, 30 small dams constructed, and 54 kilometers of streams rehabilitated last year.

Construction of 600 kilometers of roads, and1,2,71 bridges and culverts as well as providing water supply for 830,000 people were part of the projects implemented last year, he said.

Karimi said the ministry would spend around 18 billion afghanis on different projects during the ongoing year that would benefit 9.4 million people.

Ministry of Mines and Petroleum

Mines and Petroleum acting minister NargisNehan said her ministry developed a roadmap for extraction of mineral sources last year and resolved problems in 14 major and small contracts and formulated a policy for attracting foreign investment.

“Problems in the contracts of Balkhab Copper Mine, Badakhshan Gold Mine, Zarkashan Gold and Copper Mine and Shaida Copper Mine were solved last year, and in addition to that, work on extraction of natural gas, an Afghan-Tajik project, is underway,” she said.

Nehan said her ministry collected 7.2 billion afghanis from its mentioned efforts last year.

She said the ministry had the plan to issue mines extraction licenses to 43 individuals and entities for the next year, put up 147 small and medium level mines for bids and surveyed 15 areas rich in natural resources.

Afghanistaninfo-icon Petroleum and Gas Authority

Afghanistan Petroleum and Gas Authority head Dr. Walid Tamim said they quarantined 137 tankers of poor quality fuel last year.

He said making functional 30 booths for selling liquefied gas to the public (at a reduced price) in Kabul, supplying fuel materials to 17 government institutions and creating reservoirs in Herat, Faryab and Parwan provinces for storing 6,500 tons of gas were achievements of his office last year.

He said the authority was planning this ongoing year to develop regulations for hydrocarbon and some other materials.

NMHRA

Dr. Ghulam Sayed Rashid, head of NMHRA, said that the authority had assessed 1,700 pharmacies, 283 wholesale drug sellers, 325 importing medical companies and 25 medical products companies last year.

He said the private sector opened nine medical product factories last year. The authority also issued licenses to 109 wholesalers, 127 importing companies, 67 medical stores and 65 retailors last year.
