Another failing candidate closes Kabul-North highway

PUL-I-KHUMRI (Pajhwok): Supporters of another losing Wolesi Jirgainfo-icon candidate on Monday shut the Kabulinfo-icon-North highway at a separate place in northern Baghlan province against traffic.

On Thursday night, the Independent Election Commission (IECinfo-icon) unveiled the final results of Wolesi Jirga elections of some provinces including Baghlan province.

But hundreds residents of Baghlan not only opposed the final results but also staged a protest rally and closed the Kabul-north highway against traffic in Pul-i-Khumri, the provincial capital.

However, another failing Wolesi Jirga candidate Mohammad Zarif Zarifi and his supporters also closed the highway against traffic in Khenjan district of the province.

Zarifi told Pajhwok Afghan News the IEC had declared Baghlan final results without investigating their complaints.

“For achieving our rights, we closed the Kabul-North highway for traffic. We will continue our protest until the IEC convinces us,” he said.

Abdul Basir, one of the protestors, told Pajhwok “We are demonstrating for our right and the government should tolerate this.”

A number of other protestors held similar views and urged the government to address their issue at the earliest possible.
