KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani has ordered an investment of $60 million in state universities at the provincial level, asking governors to take part in cabinet meetings to ensure coordination.

Ghani issued the orders during a meeting with the governors of all 34 provinces at the Presidential Palace on Monday evening, a statement from his office said.

He called the role of governors more important than ministers’ in cabinet meetings. The ministers live in Kabul while the governors are based in different provinces of the country.

He believed the governors should attend cabinet meetings in order to cooperate and coordinate important affairs. He ordered a joint meeting between security bosses and governors on improving highway security.

Ghani emphasised on water management to prevent natural disasters, saying 300 small dams should be built in a balanced way in districts and 10 medium-sized dams in the province that were not paid much attention in the past.

The statement quoted President Ghani as saying that $60 million be invested in state ministries in the provinces besides the construction of 6,000 schools.

Ghani also directed the governors to demonstrate impartiality in the upcoming presidential elections.
