Ghani accepts Imran Khan’s invitation to visit Pakistan

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani and Pakistaninfo-icon Prime Minister Imran Khan on Sunday talked over the phone and discussed the Afghanistaninfo-icon peace process and regional connectivity.

A statement from the Presidential Place in Kabul quoted the Pakistani leader as telling Ghani that his country was ready to extend all possible cooperation to the Afghan government in bringing stability and peace to the war-torn country.

Imran Khan said he endorsed President Ghani’s regional economic integration vision and stressed the need for delegation level talks on technical issues.

The Pakistani premier invited President Ghani to visit Pakistan for detailed discussion on economic issues and regional connectivity and the Afghan leader accepted his invitation.

President Ghani commended Imran Khan’s commitment to peace in Afghanistan and said they welcomed the newly invented spirit of regional economic integration.

Ghani, who accepted Khan’s invitation to visit Pakistan, said a date should be fixed for his visit through diplomatic channels of the two countries.

In Islamabad, the Pakistani Foreign Office in a statement said Prime Minister Imran Khan and Afghan President Ashraf Ghani on Sunday agreed to capitalise on the true economic potential of the two countries for assured socio-economic development, alleviation of poverty, and welfare of the two peoples.

The two leaders agreed to make efforts for availing the geographic locations of Afghanistan and Pakistan to enhance regional connectivity.

The two leaders exchanged views on matters relating to peace, security and prosperity in Afghanistan and the region, it added.

Prime Minister Imran stated that the spirit of brotherhood defined Pakistan’s approach towards Afghanistan.

The prolonged Afghan conflict had damaged Afghanistan and adversely affected Pakistan over the past many decades. For the sake of the two peoples, the aim of the leadership should be to help build peace, promote economic progress, and advance connectivity for regional prosperity, he maintained.

The premier reiterated his vision for finding a peaceful solution in Afghanistan, fully owned and led by the Afghans themselves. He underlined that Pakistan will spare no effort to advance the common objectives of building peace in Afghanistan and having a fruitful bilateral relationship between the two brotherly countries.

Prime Minister Imran once again extended an invitation to President Ghani to visit Pakistan for a comprehensive exchange of views on all issues of mutual interest.  Dates for the visit would be decided through mutual consultations, according to the statement.
