Paktika teachers want housing problem resolved

Paktika teachers want housing problem resolved

May 07, 2019 - 15:11

SHARAN (Pajhwok): A number of teachers in southern Paktika province complain they have not been allotted land plots in a township launched for them five years ago.

On the other hand, provincial educationinfo-icon officials promised that teachers will soon get their plots in the township.

Abdul Khaliq, a schoolteacher from Yousafkhel district, told Pajhwok Afghan News on behalf of other teachers he had contacted the education department.

But authorities concerned were yet to come up with a positive response, he grumbled. “Whenever we ask about plots, they pledge early allotments -- a promise that hasn’t been honoured over the last five years.”

Mohammad Naeem, a schoolteacher from Sharan, the provincial capital, said teachers in many provinces of the country had got plots, but not in Paktika.

“Teachers serve societyinfo-icon despite receiving fewer privileges; they need to get more attention, but here everything is topsy-turvy,” he remarked.

Masum Kamran, head of Paktika Teachers’ Association, also blasted local officials for failing to keep their promise in the past five years.

He said plots should be distributed to teachers promptly as they had been faced with shelter problems. Other teachers hold similar views and stress the early distribution of plots to them.

Deputy Director of Education Mohammad Nasim Wajid said that the initial phase of teachers’ township had been completed and plots would be distributed soon.

Paktika governor, MujibRahmanSamkani said that teachers were entitled to get plots in the township.

The distribution of plots to teachers should begin soon, he stressed. “The local administration and I respect teachers and we want to start the process as soon as possible,” he concluded.
