KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The Talibaninfo-icon political office in Qatar on Thursday claimed ‘progress’ in their ongoing sixth round of peace negotiations with the US.

The talks between the Taliban and US representatives in Qatar have been ongoing over the last one week.

Suhail Shahin, Taliban’s Qatar office spokesman, on Thursday tweeted that some progress had been made during their fresh talks with the US side.

He said the talks were going towards a positive side, but he did not provide further details.

“More talks are needed for a final agreement and the ongoing negotiations would continue until tomorrow, Friday,” he said.

The Taliban and US representatives have so far held five meetings and the ongoing meeting is the sixth of its kind.

No details about the last meeting of the two sides have so far been revealed, but foreign forces’ withdrawal, guarantees that Afghanistaninfo-icon will not be used against any country in future, intra-Afghan talks and a ceasefire are said to be the topics.

An Afghan journalist, Sami Yousufzai, who follows Doha meetings, had earlier said that he had met with Taliban representatives, Mullahinfo-icon Amir Khan Muttaqi and Mullah Khairullah Khairkhwa.

He said the two Taliban officials had told him the talks were going positively but the Afghanistan conflict was a complicated issue and it needed more negotiations to be resolved.
