KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Rahmat Shah starred with the willow as Afghanistaninfo-icon edged past Scotland in the second one-day international in Edinburgh on Friday.

The hosts chose to bat, with Calum MacLeod smashing 100 from 89 balls. The Scots posted a formidable total of 325 for the loss of seven wickets.

For the visitors, Rahmat Shah rose to the occasion and top-scored with 113 as the Afghans raced to 269 for the loss of the three in 44.5 overs before rain brought a premature end to the game.

Before rain started falling, Afghanistan needed 57 runs from 31 balls. As the rain stayed, the tourists won by two runs on DLS, according to BBC.

Kyle Coetzer (79) and Matthew Cross (32) were the other leading contributors to Scotland’s total. The forged a 76 runs partnership for the opening wicket.

Gulbadin Naib, Afghanistan’s new ODI captain, captured three wickets and Hamid Hassan, playing his first ODI in nearly three years, claimed two scalps.

As Mohammad Shahzad hit his 14th ODI half-century, Rahmat Shah’s ton saw the Afghans dry and home in the high-scoring match.

Hashmatullah Shahidi also chipped in with a half-century. Together with Asghar Afghan, he took the visitors to 269 for three before heavy rain ended proceedings.

On Wednesday, the first ODI between the two sides was rained off without a single delivery being bowled.
