Saudi gifts 150 tons of dates to Afghan Red Crescent Society

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The Saudi Arabia ambassador to Afghanistaninfo-icon on Saturday handed over 150 tons of dates to the Afghan Red Crescent Societyinfo-icon officials for distribution in natural calamity-prone provinces.

The ambassador, Jassim bin Mohammed Al-Khalidi, said the dates had been provided by the King Salman Center for Relief and Humanitarian Aid (KSRelief) for natural calamity prone people.

He said Afghanistan and Saudi Arabia had a long historic friendship and that his country was committed to continuing assistance with newly returning Afghan refugee families.

He said his country wished lasting peace in Afghanistan and Riyadh would spare no effort in this regard.

According to him, his country’s cooperation would remain focused on educationinfo-icon, orphans, drinking water, creating deep wells in urban areas of the country.

Of the 150 tonnes of dates packed in 750 cartons, 50 cartons were distributed to poor people today (Saturday) to start the process.

Husan Bano Ghazanfar, the Afghan Red Crescent Society’s head, thanked Saudi Arabia for the assistance.

She said the Saudi government had started distributing relief goods worth one million US dollar in aid to needy and natural calamity hit families in five provinces of the country.
