HERAT (Pajhwok): A child has been killed and eight others wounded in a bomb explosion in Shindand district of western Herat province, a local official said on Wednesday.

Hikmatullah Hikmat, district administration chief told Pajhwok Afghan News one child was killed and 8 injured in a mine explosion planted by Talibaninfo-icon in Shindand district on Wednesday.

He said that Mullahinfo-icon Nangiali, a commander of Mullah Rassoul Movement, a splinter group of the Taliban, one of his guards and six civilians were injured in the incident.

He added the injured were taken to a district hospital and the others at the Shindand district Hospital condition were stated to be stable.

But Abdul Hakim Tamana, head of Public Healthinfo-icon said that 12 people were injured, eight of whom were transferred to the Herat Hospital.

A number of residents in Shindand district expressed concern over the deteriorating security situation in the area.

Ghulam Mohammad, an eyewitness of the incident said that people were tired of the increasing instability.

If Afghan forces are unable to ensure security for the public, they should let people to take weapons and maintain their own security, he said.
