KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The Trump administration has not been open about the state of the unending war in Afghanistaninfo-icon, alleges a leading American newspaper.

In an editorial, the Washington Examiner wrote no government action was graver than war and so on no other issue US leadership owed the Americans more candor.

“The American people deserve to know where our soldiers are succeeding and where they are failing. It’s not happening,” the editorial complained.

The Pentagon was accused of keeping relevant information from journalists, analysts and the public. Even SIGAR grumbled last month it was no longer able to examine many topics publicly.

SIGAR chief John Sopko recently said: "Almost every metric for success or failure is now classified or non-existent." Information regarding Afghan security force casualties, strength and performance assessments is no longer available.

“Nor are we informed of the Afghan air special forces aircrew numbers, readiness, and airframe availability. Nor are we informed of anti-corruption efforts by the Ministry of Interior. Want more?

The daily also queried a decision by US-led NATOinfo-icon forces that they would be no longer producing district-level stability assessment of Afghan government and insurgent control.

“That isn’t up to NATO or the Pentagon to decide. That’s up to Congress, and to the public, to decide. Trump has long railed against this candor,” the editorial continued.

This antipathy toward public accountability was slammed as swampy behavior from a president who promised to drain the swamp.
