HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): At least five children were killed and 20 people wounded after a bomb-rigged motorcycle went off in Awba district of western Herat province, officials said on Saturday.
Provincial Public Health Director Abdul Hakim Tamana confirmed receiving five dead bodies of children and 20 injured people with some of them in critical condition.
He said the blast took place in one-kilometer of a health center in Awba district.
Jailani Farhad, the governor’s spokesman, said the blast happened after a bomb-rigged bike went off in that bazaar of the district at 8:30 am in the morning. One child and an elderly man were killed and 14 people, including district chief, wounded.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the blast.
Pajhwok tried to contact the Awba district chief for comment but failed.
