Rahmani’s guards hit me with pistols: Shinwari

Rahmani’s guards hit me with pistols: Shinwari

May 19, 2019 - 20:48

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Wolesi Jirgainfo-icon member from eastern Nangarhar province Muslim Shinwari on Sunday said he was beaten and insulted by bodyguards of another lawmaker Mir Rahman Rahmani.

Rahmani, who went to a second round of the Wolesi Jirga speaker’s election with colleague Nasir Osoli, fell one vote short of the required 124 votes threshold on Saturday, but he was declared as winner by the acting speaker, triggering a dispute among lawmakers.

Muslim Shinwari said during the tussle in parliament, bodyguards of Rahmani started hitting him with pistols. He said the incident had been recorded by some lawmakers on their cell phones.

The lawmaker said his demand was that the bodyguards should be introduced to attorneys but deputy National Assembly security chief Haji Ibrahim urged him not to formally lodge a complaint in this regard.

But Shinwari said he had decided that the issue should be formally dealt with after consulting his friends.

A lawmaker from southern Kandahar province Syed Ahmad Selab said he saw the bodyguards of Rahmani slapping Shinwari in the face. He said then lawmakers intervened and saved Shinwari.

Pajhwok tried to contact Rahmani but failed.
