JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Rehabilitation work of a road connecting Paroon, the capital of eastern Nuristan province, with neighbouring Kunar province, has been launched, an official said on Monday.

Governor Hafiz Abdul Qayum and other local officials inaugurated the work during a ceremony in Paroon.

The governor said 20 million afghanis provided by the Public Works Ministry would be spent on rehabilitation of the 15-kilometre road.

Qayum termed the road graveling a step forward in development of the green mountainous province and added residents would get access to transport facilities once the work was completed.

The residents of Nuristan believe the rehabilitation of the road would facilitate transport and prevent traffic accidents.

Tribal elder Azizullah said rehabilitation of the road would help reduce transport related issues and decline traffic accidents.
