Daesh threat from Afghanistan worries Russia

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Russia has voiced its concern at the gathering of about 5,000 Islamic State (Daesh) militants in Afghanistaninfo-icon’s north.

Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) head Bortnikov underlined the need for stringent border controls to prevent the insurgents from sneaking into the former Soviet republics..

During a visit to Tajikistan, which shares a long border with Afghanistan, he was quoted as saying that the massing of the militants on border was an issue of concern.

Most of the rebels previously fought alongside ISIS in Syria, Interfax quoted Bortnikov as telling a meeting with ex-Soviet intelligence services in Dushanbe.

“Especially worrying is re-deployment of terrorist groups into northern provinces of Afghanistan,” Bortnikov said
