KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Afghanistaninfo-icon have shown a lot of improvement since the last ICC Worldinfo-icon Cup they played four years ago, says Hamid Hassan.

In an interview with the BBC World Service on Wednesday, he said cricket was the only thing that would bring a smile to his war-devastated country.

Playing his World Cup, the 31 years old bowler will retire from one-day internationals after the mega event. He is determined to prove his mettle.

Eliminated in the group stage in the 2015 WC, Afghanistan registered impressive wins over Sri Lanka and Bangladesh in the 2018 Asia Cup.

"It's a big inspiration for the youngsters. If you target something, then you can achieve it, but you have to work really hard, which is what this team has done over the past 15 years.”

From nowhere, he said, Afghanistan had become one of the top 10 sides in the world. "You can see the improvements in the past four years…”

The right-arm quickie from eastern Nangarhar province said: "We love our country. We all support and play for the nation."
