Nangarhar customs office collects over 3bn afs in 2 months

JALALABAD (Pajhowk): Customs officials in eastern Nangarhar province claim collecting 3.64 billion afghanis in revenue during the last two months.

They say Nangarhar customs office is the first on the country level to collect such a high amount of revenue.

Mohammad Omar Momand, Nangarhar customs office head, told Pajhwok Afghan News it was the first time their office collected such a high amount in revenue during the first two months of current 1398 solar yearinfo-icon.

Despite facing great challenges and problems, the Nangarhar customs office has been able to collect 3.64 billion afghanis in revenue in a short period of time, he added.

“We collected 1.59 billion afghanis the previous month and 1.61 billion last month and added the amounts to the national kitty,” he said.

Momand said despite reduced trade with Pakistaninfo-icon in recent past, the custom office was able to collect more revenue compared to other customs offices of the country.

He said Nangarhar governor Shah Mahmod Miakhel also played his role in the increased revenue collection as order was maintained on the Jalalabad-Torkham highway and no cargo trucks evaded taxing.

Shah Mahmod Miakhel said many security checkpoints had been created in different areas of the province and he recently started taxing exports of talc and other types of rocks.
