6 killed, 457 homes damaged in countrywide floods

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): At least six people have been killed and another 13 wounded as a result of flash floods that destroyed 457 residential homes throughout the country, an official said on Saturday.

Mohammad Tamim Azemi, Natural Disasters Management Ministry’s spokesman, said flash floods triggered by heavy rains had caused human and financial losses to people in Bamyan, Baghlan, Ghorinfo-icon, Herat, Ghazni and Kabul provinces during the past few days.

According to his information, one individual was killed and five others wounded in capital Kabul where 200 homes were also either destroyed or damaged due to the floods.

He said a mosqueinfo-icon was also destroyed in the 7th police district of Kabul city in the flash floods.

He said the flooding killed three people and wounded a fourth in western Herat province where 88 homes were destroyed while one individual was killed and six others wounded and 133 homes destroyed in Ghor province. He said 13 livestock were also killed in Ghor due to flash floods.

One person was killed and 11 homes were destroyed in southern Ghazni province and in Bamyan province the floods destroyed 14 homes.

Azemi said 500 marooned people have been rescued in Shiber district of Bamyan province and shifted a secure place.

He said one individual was wounded and four homes destroyed in northern Baghlan province due to the floods.
