Afghan, US personnel injured in Helmand crash

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Several Americans and Afghans were injured when a US Chinook helicopter was destroyed during a hard landing in southern Afghanistaninfo-icon.

The helicopter made an emergency landing in the Nawzad district of Helmand province, Afghan and US officials said.

Mohammad Omar Zwak, the governor’s spokesman, confirmed to Pajhwok Afghan News the foreign forces’ chopper made the emergency landing. However, he said there were no casualties.

As a result of the hard landing, the CH-47 Chinook helicopter was destroyed, passengers and crew members injured, a representative of the NATOinfo-icon mission, Colonel David Butler, verified to Pajhwok.

The wounded included passengers and crewmembers aboard the heavy lift helicopter, he said, adding the copter hit the ground hard on the way to drop passengers off during a mission.

“Both Afghan and US personnel were injured but all are stable and expected to recover,” Butler informed.

“No hostile fire or enemy contact was involved,.” The US military spokesman explained.
