Af-Pak trade via Torkham resumes after protest

PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Afghan-Pakistaninfo-icon trade through the Torkham border has resumed after an end to a two-day strike by local custom clearing agents.

The protest was called off following marathon negotiations with custom officials, traders and custom clearing agents said, claiming the enforcement of a new rule had been deferred.

They added the old process of goods clearance -- examination of more than one loaded vehicle by just one Goods Deceleration (GD) form -- was still ongoing,

Both sides have reportedly agreed the new mechanism of one GD form for only one vehicle would be implemented a week after Eidul Fitr. Custom authorities in Peshawar will look into traders’ reservations.
