KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): All ports across Afghanistaninfo-icon will be connected to local banks within 18 months to prevent corruption and ensure rapid collection of revenue.

Wais Sultani, director of transport department, told participants of a ceremony in Kabul that revenue would be collected slowly in the past, creating room for corruption.

But with the establishment of a bank within the department, the official hoped, the transit process would become secure and swift and there would be transparency in fund transfers.

He said facilities would be brought to all ports of Afghanistan to improve their efficiency and boost revenue.

“Bank branches will be opened in the five major ports of Afghanistan, including, Herat, Kandahar, Nangarhar, Mazar-i-Sharif and Nimroz,”” he promised.

According to Sultani, about 200 cargo trucks are registered daily by the Traffic and Transportation Department.

Abdul Aziz Babakarkhel, director of National Bank, said they were committed to providing services to transfer all revenue of the government in a transparent way.

Nangyallai Sharifi, head of the Rahmani Transportation Company, told Pajhwok the process of revenue collection was previously slow but the process had improved and money could be deposited in the bank directly.
