KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Defending champions Australia launched their title defence in style on Saturday when they convincingly thrashed Afghanistaninfo-icon by seven wickets in their first Worldinfo-icon Cup appearance.

Afghanistan, electing to bat first at Bristol, were restricted to 207 runs in 38.2 overs, as Najibullah Zadran top-scored with 51. He displayed somewhat aggression, but not enough.

Rahmat Shah hit six fours in his 43 off 60 balls and then the exciting talent of Najibullah added 83 for the sixth wicket in 77 balls with Gulbadin (31).

Spin sensation Rashid Khan also shone with the willow at number eight, striking two fours and three sixes in his quick-fire 27.

"I have a lot of respect for Warner and Smith and we can't do anything about the crowd's reaction to them. Warner played incredibly well to ignore that and play as well as he did.”
