GARDEZ (Pajhwok): The residents of Paktia province say fighting had snatched every happiness and joy from their lives and they spend Eid in grief and sorrow as well.

Besides fighting, the residents termed poverty another big issue due to which most of the people had been deprived from the essential needs of life and unable to mark Eid with zeal and enthusiasm.

Syed Ajan Nizam, the resident of Terai locality on the outskirts of Gardez, told Pajhwok Afghan News every family at least lost one member during the ongoing conflict and the absence of their love ones had removed the logic of happiness from their minds.

Nizam is worried at the growing pace of fighting and said poverty had massively increased as a result of continued incidents of violence.

“In the past Eids were very colorful and full of joy and celebrations, but now due to poverty, unemployment and fighting made the Eid celebration less colorful and people are not able to purchase the things of their like.”

Hashim Paktin, a shopkeeper of cosmetics, said there was drastic decline in the ability of customers when it comes to buying.

He demanded the ongoing fighting to come to an end and asked the Talibaninfo-icon to at least agree to a ceasefire during Eid days.

Police Chief Col. Mohammad Usman Janbaz said security preparation had been completed and added that people would be able to offer Eid prayers without any incident of violence.

“Security forces are here for the protection of people and they strived day and night to ensure the well-being of the people,” he said.

Jambaz added the government always gave priority to peace and still remained top priority agenda.

He assured the residents of complete security and stability and told them to celebrate Eid without fear.
