KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): As many as 185,000 Afghan refugees returned to their homeland from neighboring Iran in the first five months of the current year, authorities say..

At least 100,000 of them were deported, with the rest voluntarily coming back home, says a statement from the Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation.

In the wake of fresh US sanctions against the Islamic republic, Iran’s economy has significantly slowed down and work opportunities for the Afghans have shrunken.

Since January 1, the ministry said, 482 refugees returned from European countries with 382 deported and 100 voluntarily coming home.
