GARDEZ (Pajhwok): Residents of the Zazai Aryub district of southeastern Paktia province, complaining of inadequate healthinfo-icon services, want the government to address the issue on priority.

Iqbal, a resident of Alikhel village, told Pajhwok Afghan News half of the district hospital’s medicines were sold in the market but needy patients were not provided properly with drugs.

“Some workers of the hospital and clinics have monopolised health services in the district. When a good doctor is posted there, health workers conspire to remove him,” he charged.

Arabuddin, another resident, said that some doctors did not arrive at clinics on time and patients were not provided with health services due to lack of tools and drugs.

Haji Ali Khan, an inhabitant, called on the organs concerned to build more clinics and facilities in Zazai Aryub to meet the needs of all people.

Khan alleged: “Medicine supplied to the district hospital is sold in the bazaar.  We need professional doctors and better-equipped hospitals.”

But Dr. Mohammad Ayub Aryubi, head of a 30-bed hospital in the district, said around 300 patients visited the health facility on a daily basis.

He also vehemently denied the illegal sale of government-provided medicine and said the drugs were not supplied on time.

Kaftan Ikhlas, the district’s administrative chief, said one hospital and 40 clinics were operating in the town, but they were not enough to cover the entire population.

The official said he had shared the issue with relevant officials in Gardez. He added the authorities had promised improving health services in the district .
