HERAT (Pajhwok): Three members of the Provincial Council of western Herat province have been beaten and injured by bodyguards of the council chief, a public representative said on Saturday.

The incident took place before noon on Saturday, said Ghulam Habib Hashmi, a member of the provincial council.

He said guards of the council chief, Kamran Alizai, entered the Provincial Council office and after a verbal clash, started hitting three members of the council and their guards with the buts of their guns.

He said the three public reps were injured in the incident. He identified the three as Wakil Ahmad, Abdul Rahman Muradi and Mohammad Sardar Bahaduri.

Hashmi said Alizai’s guards also fired into the air after the verbal clash and then resorted to hitting the three public representatives. He did not elaborate further.

Pajhwok repeatedly tried to establish a contact with the provincial council chief, but to no avail.
