Insecurity, forced marriage women’s main concerns: Survey

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Afghan womeninfo-icon have been in deep trouble due to lack of security, educationinfo-icon and forced marriages, a recently survey says.

The survey conducted by the Provincial Women Network interviewed 300 women in 38 districts and 15 provinces across the country.

Sahar Guwhar, member of the network, told reporters in Kabul that lack of security, education and forced marriage were major concerns of Afghan women.

She said women were interviewed face-to-face in the home-to-home survey across the country.

She said unemployment, violence and misbehavior were other concerns among the gender.

The women interviewed also complained about police behavior and said they were misbehaved while registering complaints with police and thus females who are victim of violence fear referring to judicial organs, she added.

She further said after completion of the survey they shared the women’s concerns with the ministries of women affairs, hajjinfo-icon and religious affairs and interior affairs, the public healthinfo-icon and the Independent Election Commission in order to address them.

Gowhar said all the mentioned ministries had assured them of taking measures to resolve women’s problems.

Latifa Sultani, Women Independent Human Rights Commission’s director, confirmed challenges being faced by women and said women even in urban parts of the country were deprived of their due rights.

She said another survey done by the Afghanistaninfo-icon Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC) in 2018 showed 261 women were murdered, half of them over honor.

She said women availed limited access to justice and their participation in important national process was not as big as should be.
