TIRINKOT (Pajhwok): Security forces have arrested a former deputy police chief for central Uruzgan province during a raid, an official said on Monday.

 A well-placed source at the provincial police headquarters told Pajhwok Afghan News the operation was carried out by police chief Khitab Khanjari and other security forces late Sunday night.

The joint forces raided the former deputy police chief Noorzai’s home and arrested him along with some individuals and arms.

Security forces have been conducting operations against illegal arms and ammunition in Tirinkot, the provincial capital, for the last two days.

Police Chief Khitab Khanjari told Pajhwok that some advanced and light weapons had been seized during three days of the clearing operations.

He confirmed the former deputy police chief had been arrested along with some weapons from the electricity department head’s home.

Uruzgan power department director Sami Sharafat confirmed security forces raided his home and said he had legal documents to possess arms.
