Pakistan to extend Afghan refugees’ stay, hopes Kabul

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The government of Afghanistaninfo-icon hopes Pakistaninfo-icon, which is due to host a four-way meeting on a repatriation roadmap today, will extend the sty of Afghan refugees.

On June 30, the Proof of Registration (PoR) cards issued to Afghan refugees by the Pakistan government expire. The card-holders are allowed to live legally in the country.

Reza Bahir, deputy spokesman for the MoRR, told Pajhwok Afghan News Minister Syed Alami Balkhi was in Islamabad at the head of a high-level delegation to discuss issues related to the refugees living in Pakistan.

A four-party meeting was being held in Islamabad today (Monday) on a roadmap for the repatriation of millions of Afghan refugees from Pakistan and Iran, he said.

He said Afghan and Pakistani officials would discuss a new extension in the stay of refugees. He hoped Pakistan could extend the Afghan refugees’ stay.

Afghanistan and Pakistan have established a bilateral work group on refugees’ return and reintegration within the framework of the Afghanistan-Pakistan Action Plane on Peace and Solidarity (APAPPS).
