Poultry feed, cooking oil factories launched in Balkh

MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): Two factories producing poultry feed and cooking oil costing $8 million in investment have been opened in northern Balkh province, officials said Monday.

Agricultureinfo-icon Minister Nasir Ahmad Durrani during his trip to Balkh province inaugurated the two factories.

A statement from the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock (MAIL) received by Pajhwok Afghan News said the factories were launched by Mufid Group of Industries Company by investing $8 million.

It the poultry feed factory would produce 240 tons of chicken feed and the oil factory would produce 250 tons of soybean, corn and sesame oil a day.

Basir Swida, head of Balkh Poultry Farms Association, thanked MAIL for supporting the private sector and said there were 624 poultry farms producing poultry feed, chickens and chicken eggs in Balkh.

He said prevention of imported old chickens from abroad would help improve domestic poultry farms.

Poultry farms in Balkh and other provinces are enough to meet the needs of the country in terms of meat and eggs production, he said.

Nasir Ahmad Durrani also visited factories producing flour in Balkh. The plants have the capacity of producing 7,000 tons of flour in 24 hours.
