KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development (MRRD) on Tuesday signed contracts of nine projects worth 312 million afghanis with local development councils.

Mujib Rahman Karimi, rural rehabilitation and development minister, while signing the contracts, said the projects would cost a total of 312 million afghanis and would be implemented in Kunar, Kapisa, Logar, Khost, Jawzjan, Kandahar and Zabul provinces.

He said a retaining wall with 40 kilometers length would be constructed on the Kunar River, a project that would help turn 3,600 hectares of dry land into farmland in the province.

However, he said only 10 kilometers of the wall would be initially built under a contract of 290 million afghanis.

Karimi said contracts of another nine projects for improving nomads livelihood were also signed today following a presidential order.

These nine projects include construction of five irrigation canals and providing potable water to nomads, he said, adding the projects would cost 21 million afghanis.

He said 31,000 nomads would get benefit of these projects when implemented.
