KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani has met British Prime Minister Theresa May and discussed the upcoming presidential election.

May hosted Ghani in Downing Street, her spokesperson said, adding the two sides agreed on the need for a credible and transparent presidential vote.

On regional stability, May welcomed the steps toward peace in Afghanistaninfo-icon that Ghani has taken, as well as his talks with Pakistaninfo-icon Prime Minister Imran Khan. She reiterated the UK’s support for these efforts.

They also discussed the UK’s continued development assistance for Afghanistan, with May highlighting additional humanitarian support over the next five years to help Afghans in urgent need of food, water and medicine.
