SHARANA (Pajhwok): The police chief for Barmal district of southeastern Paktika province has been killed and three of his bodyguards wounded in a Talibaninfo-icon attack, a police statement said Wednesday.

A statement from the police headquarters received by Pajhwok Afghan News said that the Barmal district police chief, Mohammad Ayub Tandar, was on his way to Yahyakhel district when Taliban militants attacked his vehicle late on Tuesday night.

In the nighttime attack, the Barmal district police chief was killed and three of his bodyguards were wounded.

The statement further said three Taliban militants were also killed and as many wounded during the firefight.

A security official in Yahyakhel district, who wished to go unnamed, told Pajhwok that commander Tandar was on his way home when came under Taliban attack.

Taliban militants claimed responsibility for the attack and said commander Ayub was killed and Khaista and commander Kako were among four others wounded in the ambush.
