KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): India has once again stoutly supported an Afghan-led, Afghan-owned and Afghan-controlled reconciliation process.

India also renewed its commitment to supporting an Afghan peace process that promoted and protected the country’s unity, sovereignty, democracy and prosperity.

India's Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Syed Akbaruddin told the UN Security Council said on Wednesday the Afghans had long been victims of terrorism.

Afghanistaninfo-icon had been faced with an unstable political social and security situation due to activities of various terrorist organisations, he added.

For genuine and sustainable peace in the region, Akbaruddin stressed, sanctuaries and safe havens provided to terror networks needed to be dismantled

"We cannot ignore that groups enjoying support and safe havens carry out violent and terrorist activities from across borders. They cannot be allowed to negotiate from a place of advantage," he continued.

India would continue to assist the people of Afghanistan in fulfilling their desire for a peaceful country, which could focus on development and build on the gains in their journey towards prosperity, the diplomat promised.
