BAMYAN CITY (Pajhwok): A contest --Peace Code -- involving womeninfo-icon from 27 provinces of the country has been held in central Bamyan province, a UN official said on Friday.

A peace plan presented by women from Helmand, Ghazni, Ghorinfo-icon and Bamyan provinces was declared the best strategy, the official said.

Representative of UN Women in Afghanistaninfo-icon Aleta Miller told Pajhwok Afghan News about a thousand individuals had applied for participation in the competition.

However, she said, 75 of them from 27 provinces took part in the programme. The contestants, 90 percent of them women, were divided into 10 working groups, Miller added.

After four days of group work and discussions, the participants presented their strategies on Thursday evening, the UN official continued.

She promised the UN would implement the best peace proposal with the cooperation of civil societyinfo-icon groups from Belgium, Finland, Denmark and Afghanistan.

Helmand resident Zehra, whose team won the contest, told Pajhwok: “Women can find a role for themselves in the peace process through a website and social media.”

She said her group had proposed a strategy, whereby all Afghan women could have their say in the peace drive and share their views with the government and other stakeholders.
