Wolesi Jirga votes to end deadlock on speaker post

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): A ballot box will be set up in the Wolesi Jirgainfo-icon or lower house on Monday to end the deadlock over speaker’s position.

On May 16, the election for the speaker slot became controversial after one vote polled for Mir Rahman Rahmani was declared invalid.

Rahmani had bagged 123 votes --- one vote short of the required threshold -- against his opponent Kamal Nasir Usoli who collected more than 50 votes.

Wolesi Jirga secretary Abdul Qader Zazai said the vote contained two options validation and invalidation of the controversial votes and each voter should select one of them.

The disagreement over the controversial election  between Kamal Nasir and Mir Rahmani continued until today, with several panels being set up to solve this problem. But the house eventually agreed to vote on the controversial election.

The 17th legislative round of the National Assembly was inaugurated in May this year, but so far the house is yet to elect its administrative board.
