Security forces retake Faryab’s Balcharagh district

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Security forces have regained control of the Balcharagh district in northwestern Faryab province after two years, officials said on Tuesday.

Governor Naqibullah Faiq told Pajhwok Afghan News that commando forces on Monday night landed in the district centre and hoisted the tricolor national flag there.

He added over 150 local uprising forces, trained by the Ministry of Defence, were stationed in the district centre.

Sebghatullah Selab, deputy head of the provincial council, said fighting was underway between the security forces and Talibaninfo-icon on the outskirts of the district. One commando official was killed and five others were injured in the firefight, he said.

Earlier, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) said in a statement that the security forces, led by commandos, conducted an operation to retake the district,

Balcharagh has been under Taliban’s control for the past two years. During the period, the Taliban harassed the people and extorted them.  The rebels have not yet commented on losing the distticy.
