KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The Afghan captain has pleaded for calm after rowdy scenes erupted were sparked by the team’s eighth consecutive defeat at the Worldinfo-icon Cup.

Videos on social media showed fans of Afghanistaninfo-icon and Pakistaninfo-icon trading blows outside the Headingley Stadium in Leeds.

As Afghanistan lost the match by three wickets, clashes erupted and enraged Afghan supporters charged on to the pitch.

On the ugly situation, Gulbadin Naib said: "We're here to leave a good impression of my team and also my country.

“So if you look at my country, there's not good going on in the last 40, 45 years. But we're here to show to the world we want friendship," Naib added.

"To all the audiences watching these kinds of matches, this is only a cricket game. Just watch the cricket game. It's a sportinfo-icon,” he remarked, asking supporters to be patient.
