SHIBERGHAN (Pajhwok): More than 30 Talibaninfo-icon militants and six security personnel have been killed during an hours long clash in Qush Tepa district of northern Jawzjan province, an official said on Monday.

Jawzjan police chief Col. Abdul Wahid Wijdan said a group of armed insurgents attacked security posts from all directions at about 11:30 pm last night and the ensuing clash continued until 3pm Monday.

He said the Afghan forces also called in airstrikes that caused heavy casualties to the attackers, whose bodies were still lying on the ground in the area.

He said another 15 security forces and dozens of Taliban militants were wounded in the clashes.

The police chief said all necessary arrangements to strengthen the embattled forces in Qush Tepa district had been made. He said the forces were supplied food, reinforcement and ammunition by air.

Qush Tepa district chief Aminullah said so far the situation around the district center was uneasy as both sides were using heavy weapons.

He said telephonic connection between the district and the provincial capital had been disconnected and they currently used walkie-talkie to communicate.
