42 Taliban, 2 security forces killed in Faryab clashes

MAIMANA (Pajhwok): Forty-two Talibaninfo-icon militants have been killed during clashes with security forces in Shirin Tagab district of northwestern Faryab province, officials said on Monday.

Governor Naqibullah Faiq told Pajhwok Afghan News Afghan two security forces were also killed in the separate clashes that took place Sunday night.

He said five Taliban militants were killed and three others wounded as Special Force raided their hideout in Rahmatabad village of the district late on Sunday night.

He said security forces also seized some weapons and ammunitions belonging to the militants during the nighttime operation.

Hamidullah, a resident of the area, told Pajhwok that security forces torched the home of Mullahinfo-icon Ibrahim known as Mawaih, a key commander of the Taliban in the district.

Meanwhile, local officials said Andkho district would fall into the hands of militants soon if security reinforcements did not reach.

Sultan Mohammad, the Andkho district administrative chief, told Pajhwok that Taliban militants launched coordinated attacks on security check-posts in Ghajarabad locality of the district, advancing to the Zeaee tank area.

He said two security forces were killed and 12 others wounded in the early morning attack.

On the other hand, Abad Zaki, a police commander, told Pajhwok 37 Taliban militants were killed during clashes with security forces in Andkhoi district.
