SHIBERGHAN (Pajhwok): Talibaninfo-icon militants captured Qush Tepa district of northern Jawzjan province after two days of fighting with security forces, the governor said on Tuesday.

Governor Mualvi Lotfullah Azizi told Pajhwok Afghan News clashes between security forces and Taliban gunmen continued for two nights until the district fell to the rebels on Monday night at around 10pm.

The governor said there was no information about security forces protecting the district center whether they had hidden themselves in residential compounds or somewhere else.

Azizi said, “Commandos have been dispatched to neighboring Darzab district and all preparations have been made in this regard and I assure we would recapture the district from Taliban soon.”

He said telecommunication services had been cut off and therefore they could not contact with security forces so far.

According to the governor, six security forces had been killed and another 23 wounded in the firefight.
Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said their fighters captured the Qush Tepa district headquarters after killing dozens of security forces and wounding another 25. He also said 78 more security forces were captured.
