KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): President Donald Trump says US troops remain in Afghanistaninfo-icon after almost two decades, despite his desire to bring them home,

In an interview aired on Monday, he said: "I've wanted to pull them out. And you know, I have pulled a lot out. We were at 16,000. We're down to about 9,000…”

Involved in the Middle East for so long, the US had become international police. The president remarked, saying Russia and China did not seek to police the globe.

"I would like to just get out. The problem is, it (Afghanistan) just seems to be a lab for terrorists. I call it the Harvard of terrorists," he said.

He promised keeping a strong intelligence presence in Afghanistan, where the US has reduced its forces substantially.

Trump added military commanders had told him they would fight terrorists on their home turf than in the US.

Speaking to Fox News, Trump said the problem with pulling the 9,000 US troops from Afghanistan was that the country was a lab for terrorists.

Without a US military presence there, Afghanistan could be used as a base for terrorist attacks on the United States, he feared.
