Afghanistan, West Indies square off tomorrow

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Having lost all their ICC Worldinfo-icon Cup matches, Afghanistaninfo-icon will square off against West Indies in their last encounter of the mega event on Thursday.

Afghanistan, who have not been able to notch up a single win in the ongoing World Cup, will do all they can to end their victory drought,

The two sides will meet at the Headingley Cricket Ground in Leeds in match number 42 at 09.30 am (UK time), according to a statement from ICC.

Both against Pakistaninfo-icon and India, the Gulbadin Naib-led squad came so close to victory but let the game drift away from their grasp at critical junctures.

Unlike their spinners, who have come up with consistent performances throughout the tournament, Afghanistan’s fast bowlers and batsmen have left a lot to be desired.

The national team will draw inspiration from the fact that they have downed West Indies thrice in the last four matches.

West Indies, whose cause has been well-served by Sheldon Cottrell, have scored a solitary win in the tournament so far -- against Pakistan.

Just like Afghanistan, West Indies have failed to produce an all-round performance or post a fighting total due to the lack of partnerships.
