No issue to be agreed individually in Qatar talks: Bass

Jul 03, 2019 - 19:59

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): US ambassador to Afghanistaninfo-icon John Bass on Wednesday stressed agreement on four key issues in the ongoing Qatar negotiations, saying no issue would be agreed upon individually.

A statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan received by Pajhwok Afghan News quoted the US envoy as expressing these views during a meeting with acting Foreign Minister Salahuddin Rabbani.

The seventh round of peace talks between US and Talibaninfo-icon representatives began in Qatari capital Doha on Saturday.

Bass hoped for advances in the Qatar talks and for the beginning for intra-Afghan dialogue, saying the US wanted agreement on four key issues in the talks with the Taliban and no issue would be agreed individually.

The statement said Rabbani provided information about his recent trip to Germany and meetings with German officials about their role in the Afghan peace process.

Both sides exchanged views about the upcoming presidential election and intra-Afghan talks scheduled for July 7 and 8 initiated by Qatar and Germany in Doha.
