Jul 06, 2019 - 14:06

SHARAN (Pajhwok): At least eight border police personnel have been killed in a Talibaninfo-icon attack in Wazikhwa district of southern Paktika province, an official said on Saturday.

Police chief Brig. Gen. Emal Niazai told Pajhwok Afghan News that the militants stormed security check-post in Srwandi area of the district on Friday night.

Eight border policemen were killed, he said, adding the militants were also suffered casualties after the arrival of reinforcement. The exact figure insurgents’ casualty was not available.

Abdul Ghani Pakteen, a member of provincial council, said eight border police personnel were killed, two wounded and four others had gone missing.

He said the militants had torched two check-posts and the additional forces could not arrive because the rebels had placed landmines on the way.

Taliban confirmed the overnight attack. The group spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said three check-posts were attacked last night in Wazikhwa district.

He claimed 17 border policemen were suffered casualties and the rebels captured a number of weapons and ammunition. Only two rebels were killed and two others wounded in the clash, he added.
